Igor Ledochowski: Conversational Hypnosis Pioneer

Good running shoes for high arches and shin splints?
I want a good pair of shoes that will fit my high arches(not wide) and prevent shin splints. I had a pair of brooks trance 7s and right now I have asics 2110 or something like that...they're okay I guess, but I liked the trance 7s better.
Can someone who really knows what they're talking about tell me a few shoes that would be right for me? I run about 50 miles a week by the way and I need this pain in my right shin to completely go away....oh yeah and I also wear custome orthotics so the insoles in the shoes may not matter because I will take them out.
You bring up two points, high arches and shin splints so I'll address them separately.
HIGH ARCHES
I have very high arches myself. I have found that despite the fact that online everyone says that high arches need "neutral" shoes and that in store after they analyze my running I should be in "stability" shoes, that I can run in just about anything as long as I put in the correct inserts for my arches. My personal favorites are the Sof Sole brand Arch insoles. They have good cushioning and a nice high arch support.
Find a shoe that fits and put in new inserts. Seriously. Do not ever believe anyone who says "X shoe is best." You have to try it on to see if it is best for you. And I have never found a shoe that came pre-made with inserts high enough for my arches.
SHIN SPLINTS
These might be caused by increasing your mileage somewhat suddenly after taking time off or by shoes that need to be replaced.
I actually found that the yoga pose called utkatasana or chair pose http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/493 (which looks a lot like a standard squat, but has a few more directions) really works the muscles behind the shin responsible for shin splints. When I increased my mileage a couple months ago and had really bad shin splints, I just kept doing that stretch several times a day and I had no problem getting back to running. I still do the stretch often to prevent shin splints and I have been remarkably un-sore considering I just ran a marathon 2 weeks ago.
