IT Band Issues, what to do?
I am preparing for the Disney Marathon and a Half in 2012. So I have about 6 months left to train. I ran 20 miles around June 4th or 5th, which is my longest run to date. About two weeks back my IT band started hurting, which has never really happened to me before. I have been running for several years and have trained for a marathon in the past. I tend to pronate really bad when I run so yesterday I was fitted for a Aetrex Lynco insole orthotic. I have also been doing stretching exercises and using a roller. My question is how long should I rest before I start running again. I have seen things on online forums that say anywhere from 1 week to several months. I really can't afford to miss out on several months of training. I am just trying to figure out how to ease back into running without killing my knees. I was supposed to run 6 miles this Saturday, how should I approach that? I was just wondering if anyone had gone through a similar situation.
How long it takes you to get back depends on you and your I T band.
Everyone is different, so you are just going to have to play it by ear.
You could run in deep water to maintain some cardiovascular conditioning and bike, or do elliptical, rather than run.
You can skip the 6 miles on Saturday, and taking off a couple of weeks is not going to keep you from running Disney.
