In making Merrell Socks new technologies were created and tested and each Merrell sock has been made using the pioneering E.W.E. Technology. This technology uses the highest quality of natural wool fibres and blends them with high performing synthetic fibres to create an exclusive yarn which is then used to produce Merrell socks with unrivalled qualities.
Merrell hiking socks contain the natural fibres of New Wool and Merino Wool. New Wool is a polished wool which is both soft against the skin and also durable. New Wool also provides exceptional thermal and moisture control to keep the feet comfortable. Merino Wool is used in Merrell socks as it is renowned for its superior softness when next to the skin.
Duraline and Coolmax are both innovative, man made yarns and they are used in Merrell trekking socks as they draw moisture from the foot and wick it away, this helps to keep the feet dry all day long, while the inclusion of Tactel in Merrell hiking socks gives them anti bacterial properties. What are the best socks for hiking?
eyzon47's answer is right on target - a thin, moisture-wicking first layer (polypropylene or some other synthetic like CoolMax, etc.) followed by thick wool second layer for cushioning. If you are prone to blisters, try applying something like Coach's tape or moleskin or one of the other fancy things like second-skin to the trouble spots before hitting the trail. You have to keep this in mind when buying your hiking shoes - try them on with thick socks to make sure you have enough space.
